How much exercise will I need to lose weight and what type?thank you for your replies?

Lunch : chicken breast or veggies or 2 slices low GI bread or low GI pasta. Supper: portion of fish /chicken/sausage/meat -not fried and veggies, sometimes pasta. Is this diet OK? What else do I need? I exercise 20 mins on the Orbitrek exercise machine which apparently burns 100 calories. Don’t use your weight as a guideline. When you’re exercising, you’re building muscle, and muscle weighs more than fat. Muscle also burns more fat. Abetter way to grade your progress is to measure yourself with a soft tape measure. (like a cloth or plastic one) That will tell you how many inches you’re loosing. Another suggestion I have is to join the discovery channels weight loss program online. this will tell you how many calories you need to eat and how many calories to burn to loose weight.

Well remember that muscle weighs more than fat so you may be excercising to the point where you are burning fat and gaining muscle at the same time, which would keep your weight the same.
I wouldn’t worry about how much you weigh but more about how you look. If you still think you look fat then increase your cardio workouts.

I had to answer your question for 2 reasons… 1st because my name is Yvette as well, and 2ndly because I am in a similar situation, I am 34 years old and I am a type 2 diabetic who has to lose weight quickly, your creating muscle with the excercise you are doing and muscle weighs more than fat, according to the latest Australian reaserch you need to excecise 42 hours to burn off 1 kilogram, this sounds a bit far fetched to me, I have a personal trainer who makes me do 30 minutes of moderate excercise in my home 5 days a week, I am loesing about 2 kg per week, slow and steady weight loss is better than a fast drop in weight, as the faster you lose it the faster it comes back on, so cut back on carbs, each plenty of protein and as much salad &/or vegies you possibly can to bulk out your meals, also instead of serving your meals on a dinner size plate, serve your food onto a bread plate, it looks like your actually eating more than you really are, and eat slowly…it takes your brain 20 minutes to realize you’re full, drink plenty of water, esp: if you feel hungry, a glass of water sipped slowly will take away hunger pains in between meals, I have lost 63kg, it does work, it just takes time, so from 1 Yvette to another good luck

I can’t comment much on your diet because the portions and cooking method (wet or dry) is mentioned, but your build-up of muscle could be the culprit; anyway, I hope a nutritionist will come across your question;
I only want to share my own experience with weight loss; when I started losing weight (from 242 lbs, for 6′3″), I went down to 180; then I started gaining weight again, even when I maintained my food intake and nothing change in my daily routines; I found out later that it was because, after losing the excess water and body fat, I started to build muscles; the gaining of muscles are behind my weight gain;
try to find out how much of your weight is muscle mass; also, was there a time when you lost (some) weight before you started gaining weight or stabilized at a certain weight level (like me)? and, how long have you been working out? usually the 1st 10 pounds is water, but this will depend on how much water you are retaining;
